New Trailer Drops for Zach Cregger’s ‘Resident Evil’ Reboot

Sony Pictures unveiled the official trailer Thursday for “Resident Evil,” filmmaker Zach Cregger’s (“Weapons”) upcoming big-screen reinvention of the iconic horror franchise.

Co-written by Cregger and Shay Hatten (“Ballerina”), the film pivots from traditional series lore to tell an all-new standalone survival story. Austin Abrams stars as Bryan, a medical courier tasked with transporting crucial cargo to Raccoon City General Hospital. His routine delivery turns into a nightmare when he hits something on the road, sparking a frantic, nonstop race for survival over one terrifying night.

The horror thriller also stars Zach Cherry (“Severance”), Kali Reis (“True Detective”), and Paul Walter Hauser (“Black Bird”).

Produced by Columbia Pictures and Constantin Film in association with TriStar Pictures, “Resident Evil” opens in theaters and IMAX on Sept. 18.
