AMC Releases ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ First Looks, Premiere Date, and More During Comic-Con@Home Panel

On Saturday, AMC held its “Fear The Walking Dead” panel as part of San Diego Comic-Con’s virtual event Comic-Con@Home. The hour-long panel, moderated by “Talking Dead” host Chris Hardwick, featured chief content officer of “The Walking Dead Universe” Scott M. Gimple, showrunners Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg, and cast members Lennie James, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Colman Domingo, Danay Garcia, Jenna Elfman, Karen David, Mo Collins, and Christine Evangelista as they discussed what’s to come in the upcoming seventh season of the show.

The sixth season of “Fear the Walking Dead” ended with a bang, literally, as the character Teddy brought about his vision of “The End” when he detonated nuclear warheads across the Texas landscape. The events of the sixth season added a nuclear apocalypse on top of the already deadly zombie apocalypse setting the stage for a wealth of new challenges for “Fear The Walking Dead” characters in the upcoming season.

During the panel, Ian Goldberg shared a bit on what the introduction of a nuclear fallout brings to “Fear The Walking Dead,” explaining that the introduction of nuclear radiation will bring with it changes to walkers, changes to how the characters navigate the world, it will make resources even more scarce, and will bring with it a whole new brand of human adversary.

The upcoming season sounds as if it will be unlike anything we’ve seen in “The Walking Dead” with the season drawing inspiration from films like “Mad Max” and “The Hills Have Eyes,” as well as some more obscure titles like “The Neverending Story” and “The Wrestler.”

But while the situation looks dire for the characters of the series, actor Lennie James, who plays Morgan on the show, Shared that the theme of the entire season is hope. “I think finding hope could be the whole title of this next season,” said James. “And it could apply to all of the different characters. We’ve all got to find our version of what we think hope is, really.”

For Morgan, his determination in the coming season will be finding a better world for him and Grace and the infant, which they discover in the previous season. You can see exactly what Morgan is fighting for in this first-look video shared during the panel:

During the panel, it was also revealed that the upcoming seventh season would bring some returning cast members and some new faces with it. Actress Sydney Lemmon, who played Isabelle in the sixth season of the show, will return for season seven, along with Omid Abtahi, who appeared in the season six finale as Howard. Joining the cast is actor Gus Halper. However, no further details on who he would play or his character were revealed.

Season seven of “Fear The Walking Dead” will premiere on October 17, 2021, at 9/8C on AMC. The new season will feature eight episodes, including one directed by actress Alycia Debnam-Carey, who has been with the series since its pilot. For those looking to get their “Fear The Walking Dead” a bit early, as in seasons past, new episodes will be available early on AMC+ each week.
