Anne Hathaway Goes Full Pop Star in First Single from A24’s ‘Mother Mary’

Ahead of the April 17, 2026, theatrical release of the psychosexual thriller “Mother Mary,” Anne Hathaway has debuted “Burial,” the first single from the film’s highly anticipated soundtrack.

Hathaway stars as the titular’ Mother Mary,’ an iconic performer at the center of writer-director David Lowery’s latest feature. The film follows the star on the eve of a massive comeback performance, as long-buried wounds resurface when she reunites with her estranged best friend and former costume designer, Sam Anselm (Michaela Coel).

To bring the fictional superstar’s sound to life, Hathaway teamed up with a who’s who of indie-pop. “Burial” was co-written by Hathaway alongside Charli XCX, Jack Antonoff, and George Daniel. The track serves as the lead single for the full-length album “Mother Mary: Greatest Hits,” which drops via A24 Music on the same day the film hits theaters.

The seven-song project features Hathaway on vocals, with writing and production credits from Charli XCX, Antonoff, and FKA twigs, who also brings her talents to the big screen as a co-star in the film. While Hathaway is an Oscar winner for her musical turn in “Les Misérables,” “Mother Mary” marks a gritty, contemporary pivot for the actress’s vocal career.
