Asymmetrical Horror ‘Damned’ Getting a Sequel Over a Decade After the First Game’s Release

Over a decade after its debut, asymmetric horror title, “Damned” returns with a new vision of multiplayer terror in “Damned 2”. The sequel will launch in Early Access on August 7, 2025, on Steam, with PlayStation 4 and 5 and Xbox One and Series S|X versions coming soon after.

Developed in Unreal Engine 5 by 9Heads Game Studio and published globally by Nuntius Games, “Damned 2” hopes to bring a fresh and immersive take to a genre it helped define.

Originally released in mid-2014, the first “Damned” was the world’s very first asymmetric horror game, paving the way for a genre that would become a global phenomenon and inspiring the creation of titles like “Dead by Daylight”, “Friday the 13th: The Game”, and the many others that followed.

Despite being an indie project and bearing the weight of being a pioneer, the game became a commercial success, played by prominent international streamers such as Alanzoka, PewDiePie, and Seananners, and received an overwhelmingly warm response from the global community. To this day, “Damned” is recognized as revolutionary and inspiring for the genre.

After several years of work by 9Heads Studio in search of something genuinely new, the game is finally getting a sequel.

“Damned 2” is an asymmetrical multiplayer horror game where four survivors must explore cursed locations, solve puzzles, and escape alive โ€” while a fifth player takes on the role of a deadly creature hunting them down.

The game focuses on audiovisual immersion and tactical variety, featuring highly detailed environments, advanced 3D sound, and dynamic lighting that heightens tension in every dark corner.

Its immersive VOIP system simulates ambient echoes and reverberations, creating realistic and terrifying situations for players communicating by voice in-game. Additionally, the randomized placement of items and puzzles in each session, combined with a diverse roster of playable monsters with unique abilities, ensures that no two matches are ever the same.

Those interested in experiencing the game early can partake in a free, public playtest running from July 3 through July 7, 2025, exclusively on PC. To join, visit the game’s Steam page and click the “Request Access” button. Several streamers have already shared plans to go live playing with their followers during the event. Participants will receive an exclusive in-game banner as a token of appreciation for their support of the community.

In this final test before launch, players will have access to the new monster Blight, two new survivor characters (Mother Lucy and Mac), and the new map Ashen Mortuary, along with several other improvements and new features.
