Calico Ghost Town Becomes “Fear Town” Starting This Weekend

Last year I shared with you Calico Ghost Town’s Monster Mayhem event, the Halloween overlay and selection of special activities put on by the historic ghost town for Halloween season. This Friday, Halloween at Calico Ghost Town returns for two weekends, October 19 – 21 and 26- 28 with “Fear Town Ghost Haunt.” Offering family-friendly activities during the day and special “scare hours” at night, this is the perfect family Halloween weekend getaway with an old west twist.

Each day of the event is filled with a variety of activities that are included with park admission, including shop-to-shop trick or treating, Halloween themed games like a Halloween Treat Walk, Great Pumpkin Sweep, or the “Mummy Your Mommy” contest. The event also features a number of live entertainment options including performances by the Kent Family Circus, Twinkle Time, a Wildlife Animal Show and of course the Calico Mountain Volunteers Gunfight. This year’s event will also feature two special concerts. On Saturday, October 20, Escape: A Journey Tribute Band will perform at 8 pm in the Silver Bowl and on Saturday, October 27 the Smokin Cobras will take the Silver Bowl stage at 8 pm to perform your favorite hits from the 50’s through the 80’s.

In addition to the activities and performances included with park admission, Calico Ghost Town is home to a number of paid attractions, Guests can take a ride on the Calico Odessa Railroad, explore Maggie Mine or unravel the mysteries of the Mystery Shack. During the day these attractions are family friendly and are “non-scare” attractions, but during “The Witching Hours” the sun goes down and the scares are turned up as Calico Odessa Railroad turns into “Pickaxe Pete’s Revenge,” Maggie Mine becomes “Maggies Haunted Mine” and the Mystery Shack becomes the “Fear Shack” where you’ll face nine different fears. What’s your greatest fear? Bugs? Dolls? Clowns? They could be waiting for you in the Fear Shack.

Tickets for each attraction are the same day or night. The Maggie Mine tour and Mystery Shack costs $3 for guests 11 and older, kids 5-10 are just $2 and kids ages 4 and under are free.  The Calico Odessa Railroad is $4.50 for guests ages 11 and over, $2.50 for kids 5-10 years old and kids 4 and under are free.

Interested in some real-life scares? Calico Ghost Tours will also be taking place on select nights during the event. These tours are the truest, most accurate accounts of Calico’s history and paranormal activity. There are three tours offered by Calico Ghost Tours including the Main Street tour, which explores the historic locations along Calico’s main street and their stories of paranormal activity, the Maggie Mine tour, which lets you explore Maggie Mine in the dark while hearing of the paranormal activity experienced in and around the mine, or finally the School House Tour, which explores the historic Calico schoolhouse and tells of the paranormal activity in Calico that relates to children and other spirits unique to the Schoolhouse area. However, at the time of this writing, it had not yet been determined what tours will be offered.
