Documentary Celebrating Late Author Anne Rice to Stream for Free on Thanksgiving

Christopher Rice stands on stage during "An Rice: An All Saints' Day Celebration."

This Thanksgiving, fans of the late Anne Rice will have an exclusive opportunity to stream “Anne Rice: An All Saints’ Day Celebration”โ€”a deeply revealing new documentary four years in the making. Produced by Rice’s son, Christopher Rice, and her close friend, Eric Shaw Quinn, the film will be available exclusively at AnneRice.com.

Anne Rice was born in New Orleans in 1941, where she was laid to rest following her death in 2021. She was one of the world’s foremost writers of supernatural, fantasy, and historical fiction, authoring 36 novels that have sold over 150 million copies worldwide. Her debut novel, “Interview with the Vampire,” was published in 1976 and has since become a cult and cultural phenomenon.

Following her passing, Christopher Rice promised her fans a large and public Celebration of Life in her honor. On November 1, 2025, exactly four years after she was laid to rest in the Rice mausoleum at Metairie Cemetery, the All Saints’ Day celebration of her life fulfilled that promise. The deeply personal, immersive experience, which was filmed and presented live to more than 1,400 fans, was held at the historic Orpheum Theater.

The event premiered an anthology of nine films detailing crucible moments in Anne’s turbulent and eventful life and career through archived interviews and new conversations with some of her closest friends, colleagues, fans, and family. The films feature intimate, never-before-seen pictures of Anne’s childhood from her private collection, the early days of her marriage to poet Stan Rice, and the family during their daughter Michele Rice’s losing battle with leukemia. In one of the films, Anne is heard describing writing “Interview with the Vampire” after Michele’s death as a means of escaping despair and exploring immortality.

The films were premiered as part of a lavish stage production and woven into live tributes and performances by theatre artists, writers and musicians, including Irma Thomas (the “Soul Queen of New Orleans”), Mary Fahl, former lead singer of the October Project, and three-time Tony nominee Carolee Carmello, who performed in Elton John’s Broadway musical “Lestat” based upon Anne’s books.

Eric Shaw Quinn and Christopher Rice delivered moving on-stage remembrances celebrating Rice’s fiercely independent identity, her encouragement of all people to express their true selves, her stratospheric success, and her lasting impact on their lives and the literary world. After the event, they hosted a receiving line that lasted several hours, meeting personally with every fan who wanted to offer their final respects.

“The event was about the fans and for the fans,” said Christopher Rice. “We were all here to honor my mother’s life, legacy, and unwavering connection to her fans and New Orleans, the city she loved and called home. We laughed, cried, and recounted endless stories, preserving the memory of my mom, and how her words moved and changed the lives of so many around the world.”

Christopher Rice and Eric Shaw Quinn also shared plans to finish and publish some of Anne’s incomplete works as well as to find homes and platforms for the many beloved works in her wildly popular library of titles.

Eric Shaw Quinn added, “It was an honor and privilege to celebrate my dear friend Anne in this way, and I am beyond grateful to be a steward of her literary estate alongside my best friend and producing partner, Christopher Rice. We can assure Anne’s fans that this is not the end of an era. It’s just the beginning of our next chapter.”
