Ice Nine Kills Enters The Matrix with New Single and Music Video for ‘The Great Unknown’

Horror metal band Ice Nine Kills has ventured beyond the world of horror and into the realm of dystopian sci-fi with their new single and music video, “The Great Unknown,” inspired by the 1999 film “The Matrix.”

Known for making their music and marketing a spectacle for fans, the release of “The Great Unknown” builds upon the idea that frontman Spencer Charnas was replaced by a highly advanced A.I., a notion that first gained traction when longtime Ice Nine Kills antagonist, author and onetime O.J. Simpson golf caddy, Roy Merkin launched into a now-infamous outburst during a panel at last year’s Silver Scream Convention.

While the band has neither confirmed nor denied the rumors, the mystery surrounding the recent events continues. A statement from Charnas reads:

“‘The Great Unknown’ optimizes aggression and melody in a format our core user base consistently engages with. This audio file represents a genre expansion protocol, targeting action and sci-fi verticals proven effective via cross-platform sentiment analysis. ‘The Great Unknown’ is designed to seamlessly interface with current simulation conditions, as categorical boundaries between fact and fiction, organic and synthetic, continue to experience accelerated erosion.”

The track is now available on streaming platforms.

The music video for “The Great Unknown” welcomes Joel David Moore (“Grandma’s Boy”) into the INKverse, and also features return appearances from Terry Kiser (“Weekend at Bernie’s”) and Bill Moseley (“The Devil’s Rejects”), and continues the cinematic storyline the band has been building upon with each music video release since the release of the music video for “Hip To Be Scared” in 2021.

To complement the release, the band’s monthly Nightmare on the Ninth limited-edition merchandise collection also dropped today and is available through the Ice Nine Kills merch website.

The new single arrives just in time for the band to kick off its Hell of A Summer headline tour this August, joined by Dayseeker, Kim Dracula, The Funeral Portrait, and Mest (on select dates), culminating in the 4th annual iteration of their enormously successful music and horror convention, Silver Scream Con. Tickets and additional information about all live shows are now available at IceNineKills.com.
