James Everett’s Score for ‘The Morrigan’ Now Available on Music Streaming Services

When I reviewed Colum Eastwood’s Gaelic-goddess horror “The Morrigan” earlier this year, one of the highlights I mentioned was its atmospheric score by composer James Everett. Last week, the score arrived on music streaming platforms courtesy of JaJo Records.

Set in a remote region of Ireland, “The Morrigan” tells the story of an ancient, vengeful Pagan War Goddess who is accidentally awakened during the excavation of a long-forgotten tomb.

Everett’s sonic landscape is rooted in something older. To capture the essence of the vengeful Pagan War Goddess, the composer eschewed contemporary sounds in favor of something more primal.

“To lean into an ancient Irish sound as much as possible, I brought in older textures like Carnyx, war horns, black drum and dords, alongside some strings and piano,” said Everett in a post announcing the release on Instagram. Everett also notes the eerie, uneasy choir heard at the end of the score, which he wound up building himself. “No ancient choir lying around, unfortunately,” he jokes.

The 21-track score is available now on music streaming platforms, including Apple Music, Spotify, and YouTube Music.
