Independent newcomer Black Hand—a studio comprised of ARPG enthusiasts—has announced its debut title, “The Dark West.” Described as an occult Action RPG, the game aims to pay homage to the foundations of the ARPG genre while pushing into new territory.
Set in a decaying frontier where faith has worn thin and something sinister has seeped into the soil, “The Dark West” promises brutal, high-speed combat. While itemization and skill trees remain core pillars, the game distinguishes itself with a poker-style deck system. Players will need to form familiar hands to unlock powerful effects.
“We made ‘The Dark West’ because we love ARPGs and wanted to create the kind of game we have always wanted to play,” said the Game Director at Black Hand. “From the start, we’ve included the community in every step of development. Their feedback is shaping the combat, the story, and the world. This is a game made with players, not just for them.”
Black Hand isn’t just looking to mimic the classics; they are aiming for a grittier atmosphere and deeper mechanical expression than the current market offers. With a focus on darker themes and special surprises, the studio is positioning itself as the new home for the hardcore ARPG enthusiast.
The Dark West is available to wishlist on Steam now, with an Early Access launch looming on the horizon.
