Independent development studio WildSphere has announced the global launch of its new video game, Escape From Umbra. The creators of the acclaimed Oxide Room 104 return with a psychological horror and logic-puzzle adventure, arriving on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Steam, and GOG on July 10, 2026.
Trading explicit gore for an atmosphere steeped in ancient witchcraft, Escape From Umbra is a fully self-published project.
The game transports players to a labyrinthine town inspired by the real-world mountain villages of Las Alpujarras. Recreated faithfully in Unreal Engine 5, dark roots and a dense, oppressive fog choke the town’s iconic narrow streets and stark white facades. To escape this living nightmare, players will have to explore every corner of the town by following the trail of enigmatic black cats.
Escape From Umbra completely ditches artificial inventories and floating backpacks. Instead, it adopts a pure escape room format. Players must physically manipulate objects within the 3D space and rely on a mysterious magic book, deciphering its logic-based clues to solve puzzles.
However, you aren’t alone. Shadow creatures patrol the town, ready to summon the mistress of darkness if they spot you.
To fight back, you’ll wield a unique flashlight capable of condensing energy into powerful bursts of light to banish specters and reveal hidden magical secrets. On PlayStation 5, the flashlight’s functions use adaptive triggers to enhance realism.
Additionally, controller vibration becomes a living gameplay mechanic: there are no on-screen indicators; the character’s heartbeat transmits directly through controller vibration, accelerating chaotically to warn you of imminent danger.
If you want to get an early taste of the terror, a 15-minute playable demo drops on Steam on July 3.
Pre-orders with a limited-time discount will also go live for Xbox players on July 3. If you are playing on Nintendo Switch, Steam, or GOG, WildSphere is offering a launch-week discount starting July 10. Store pages are officially live across all digital platforms for wishlisting today.
