Dead Man’s Bones Returns: Ryan Gosling and Zach Shields Drop First New Music in 17 Years

Just in time for Halloween, Dead Man’s Bones—the spooky indie duo featuring actor Ryan Gosling and producer Zach Shields—released its first new music in 17 years with the surprise single “Lost in the Night.”

The release follows a teaser Gosling’s partner, actress Eva Mendes, shared on Instagram, writing, “He came through on his promise to me,” alongside a haunting trailer announcing the Oct. 27 release.

The single debuted at 9 p.m. PT on Tuesday, featuring cover art of Mendes embracing a skeleton illuminated from within. Its accompanying black-and-white music video stars Rain Spencer (“The Summer I Turned Pretty”) and Noah Jupe (“Hamnet”). Opening in a graveyard, the visual follows the duo on a night out, alternating between their two perspectives.

“Lost in the Night” is available now on all major digital music streaming platforms. A limited-edition 12-inch vinyl single is also available for pre-order and scheduled to ship Jan. 29, 2027. However, it doesn’t sound like this is the only new music the group has in store for fans. The post announcing the release on the band’s Instagram ended with the line, “More coming soon.” Let’s hope another full-length from the band drops soon!

Gosling (“Project Hail Mary”) and Shields (“Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire”) formed Dead Man’s Bones in 2007 and released their self-titled debut album in 2009 alongside the Silverlake Conservatory Children’s Choir.
