‘Aaahh!!! Real Monsters’ 90s Platformer Resurrected in New ‘Nickelodeon Splat Pack’ Collection

Ickis in the Aaahh!!! Real Monsters game

The monsters are out of the closet and back on your TV. “Aaahh!!! Real Monsters,” the 16-bit action-platformer originally released in 1995, has been resurrected as part of a new retro game collection from Mighty Rabbit Studios and Limited Run Games.

The “Nickelodeon Splat Pack” brings together three classic Nickelodeon game titles, including “Aaahh!!! Real Monsters,” “Rocko’s Modern Life: Spunky’s Dangerous Day,” and “Nickelodeon GUTS.” While the collection preserves the original pixelated goodness of the 90s, it also introduces essential quality-of-life upgrades for modern gamers, including a rewind feature and the ability to save at any time.

In “Aaahh!!! Real Monsters,” players take control of Ickis, Oblina, and Krumm as they navigate the human world to pass their Monster Midterm Exam. The game allows instant character switching, which is vital for using their unique abilities to solve puzzles or overcome obstacles: Ickis can fly briefly, Oblina can reach high ledges, and Krumm can scan off-screen areas. The monsters can also perform team moves, such as stacking on top of one another to reach items normally out of reach.

For the true completionists, the pack features over 25 levels (including five bonus stages) and includes both the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo versions of the game.

“Nickelodeon Splat Pack” is available now digitally for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam.
