“Blue Ridge Hunting,” the online co-op horror game that sends players deep into the Appalachian Mountains to hunt cryptids, has officially launched its first demo and Kickstarter campaign. Players can now experience their first hunt against the vicious Dewayo, one of the region’s most infamous cryptids. The newly launched Kickstarter offers exclusive rewards and behind-the-scenes access for backers supporting the game’s continued development.
The Appalachian Mountains are home to some of the most infamous cryptids, creatures, and folklore in America. Based on real sightings, phenomena, and legends from the region, join the Appalachian Investigation Group and use a variety of tools and items to collect evidence and track down these creatures. Get paid for successful hunts and invest your earnings in better gear. But be careful, as creatures are always listening and watching. Use proximity voice chat and your radio to communicate with one another, but try to avoid drawing too much attention.
Unique in the co-op horror genre, “Blue Ridge Hunting” will feature a full story mode at its 1.0 launch. Players will follow the journey of Levi Chambers, a disgruntled West Virginia native haunted by sightings of the infamous Mothman his entire life. Set off with Levi across Appalachia to uncover the truth, encountering a wide cast of characters, terrifying monsters, and unforgettable stories along the way.
Solo developer Jade Meadows set out to create a love letter to the culture of the Appalachian region, celebrating the community and resilience of West Virginia while also acknowledging its more painful history. As players hunt the legends rooted in the area, the game explores themes of generational trauma, grief, and family, told through the distinctive lens of Appalachian folklore. The game began in January 2023 as a solo effort but is now an ambitious debut for independent game studio Jade & Company, comprising artists, composers, and designers.
“Blue Ridge Hunting” is being published by Six One Publishing and is expected to be released on Steam Early Access in 2026.
