Clumsy Bear Studios has announced that its card-based adventure game “Hungry Horrors” will be released into Steam Early Access on January 19, 2026.
Set in a mythical version of the British Isles, Hungry Horrors casts players as a princess racing to stop a ravenous curse. To save the realm, she must pacify legendary monsters drawn from British and Irish folklore—not through combat, but by serving them traditional regional dishes.
Each turn is a frantic culinary puzzle: keep the Horror fed before it reaches you by balancing hunger, flavor cravings, and “Taste Chains.” As players navigate the kingdom, they will collect seasonings, cookware, and ancient artefacts to upgrade their recipes and survive increasingly difficult encounters, culminating in a final showdown with a fearsome dragon.
Every Horror, NPC, and artefact is rooted in regional folklore, from well-known figures to obscure local tales. Every dish is based on an authentic recipe, many of which can still be found in pubs today.
The game blends turn-based strategy with a strong sense of place, wrapped in colourful 90s-inspired pixel art and accompanied by an original, whimsical score composed by Henry Taylor.

The announcement comes after a strong demo reception and months of iteration driven by community feedback. The Early Access release marks the next major step for the project, expanding its systems, content, and progression while continuing to involve players directly with development.
At launch, the Early Access version of Hungry Horrors offers a deep, folkloric experience across five distinct biomes—ranging from murky bogs to bustling towns—plus the specialized Dungeon and Kitchen areas. Players will face a menagerie of 20 mythical creatures, including the headless Dullahan and the predatory Jenny Greenteeth, armed with a menu of 42 authentic traditional recipes. The journey is supported by a robust progression system centered on the Book of Taliesin, where players unlock new mechanics and collect game-altering artefacts, seasonings, and potions. Beyond the strategy, the game features high-quality polish with unique fatality animations for every monster, hidden Easter eggs, and comprehensive accessibility options, including full controller support and specialized mouse-only and keyboard-only modes.
Player feedback will continue to shape the game during Early Access, with regular updates planned as new areas, creatures, dishes, and narrative elements are added.
“Hungry Horrors” will launch in Early Access on Steam on January 19 for PC and Steam Deck. Other platforms will be considered following the PC release.
