Alex Noyer’s sophomore feature film, “Love Is the Monster,” has officially found a streaming home. Following a successful festival run, the folk-horror thriller from Cranked Up Films is headed exclusively to Prime Video in the US on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, where it will be available to rent or buy.
The film made its world premiere at the 2025 Screamfest Film Festival before screening at international horror staples Morbido and Night Visions.
Co-written by Noyer, his “Sound of Violence” collaborator Hannu Aukia, and Blair Bathory, “Love Is the Monster” was shot in Noyer’s native Finland and draws heavily on local mythology.
The story follows a troubled couple, played by Madeline Zima (“Californication”) and Leonardo Nam (“Westworld”). After their marriage is rocked by infidelity, they jet off to an exclusive couples’ retreat in Finland to heal under the golden rays of the summer’s midnight sun. Alongside other international couples, they seek the transformative teachings of Tiina (Milla Puolakanaho, “Attack on Helsinki”), a shaman and healer channeling the ancient Finnish goddess of love and fertility, Lempo.
But the marital rejuvenation doesn’t last. The retreat quickly devolves into a brutal battle for survival as the deity’s influence and the pagan rituals turn deadly.
Zima and Nam are joined in their disastrous onscreen adventure by Kimberly Sue-Murray (“The Boys”), Moe Jeudy-Lamour (“Ted Lasso”), Kristina Tonteri-Young (“Warrior Nun”), and Sheila McCarthy (“Women Talking”).
“Releasing ‘Love Is the Monster’ during Finnish midsummer couldn’t be more fitting, as it’s when our story unfolds,” director Alex Noyer said of the release. “While a real trip to Finland is far less eventful, our devious goddess Lempo is ready to welcome audiences.”
Check it out on Prime Video starting June 23.
