Japanese indie development team North Fox Games has recently launched its debut title, “IROONI,” bringing a lethal twist to the traditional Japanese game of Color Tag (Iro-oni).
Set within the hushed, oppressive halls of an abandoned school, players are hunted by the relentless “Color Demon”—and their only defense is a flashlight that adopts the colors of the world around them.
Unlike traditional survival horror games, “IROONI” forces players into a deadly game of observation. The rules are simple but punishing: The Color Demon will randomly call out one of four colors: Red, Blue, Yellow, or Green. Players must scour the environment to touch colored objects—like a stray blue bucket or a red backpack—to change their flashlight’s hue. If your flashlight matches the Demon’s specified color, you are safe from its attacks. If not? Game over.
The game introduces a high-stakes Color Parry mechanic that lets players stun the Demon by switching colors at the last possible moment. Even failure leaves a mark: the painted outline of where you were previously caught remains, serving as a strategic color source for your next attempt.
“IROONI” is available now for PC via Steam.
