Earlier this summer, you might have seen me share on Instagram my unboxing of the Spirit Entertainment System and the game “Haunted: Halloween ’86” that Spirit Halloween sent me to kick off the Summerweens season. Around the same time, Spirit Halloween released a version of the game for consumers that could be played on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), which quickly sold out. The game is back in stock and will be available at Spirit Halloween stores this Halloween season, but if you don’t have an NES lying around, Spirit has announced the arrival of the game on PC and modern consoles.
Retrotainment Games independently developed the game and initially released it on an NES cartridge. The game is a sequel to 2016’s “Haunted: Halloween ’85” and is a classic side-scrolling, beat-’em-up platformer set in the town of Possum Hollow, which has been overrun by an evil presence. The sequel was updated for the Spirit Halloween release to include a new story and all-new bosses inspired by Spirit Halloween animatronics.
For PC gamers, “Haunted: Halloween ’86” is available now via Steam for $9.99. The PC release includes the original Game “Haunted: Halloween ’86 (The Curse of Possum Hollow)” as well as the Spirit Halloween exclusive version.
For console players, the Spirit Halloween edition of the game will be coming to Nintendo Switch and Xbox soon.
