Xbox’s Games with Gold for October 2020 Are Sure To Get You in the Halloween Spirit

Microsoft has unveiled their free games that will be available to Xbox Live Gold subscribers in October and the lineup is chock full of Halloween fun.

The first game being released is Blue Wizard Digital’s “Slayaway Camp: Butcher’s Cut,” the expanded version of the horror puzzle game that paved the way for “Friday the 13th: Killer Puzzle,” which recently made its debut on the Xbox console. Paying homage to classic ‘80s horror, play as Skullface, an adorably demented villain, out to terrorize camp counselors and any other blocky victims he finds. This special console-only Butcher’s Cut edition is the biggest and bloodiest version of Slayaway Camp and features more puzzles, more killers, and more gore. The game will be available on Xbox One for free to Xbox Live Gold members for the entire month of October.

Then beginning on October 16, Xbox Live Gold subscribers will be able to grab the British horror title “Maid of Sker.” Set in a remote hotel with a macabre and gory history, use stealth tactics to stay alive against a cult of sound-based enemies. Inspired by chilling tales in Welsh folklore, do your best to survive and brave the nightmares of the Quiet Ones. “Maid of Sker” will be available on the Xbox One through November 15.

Finally, for some more wholesome Halloween fun, Microsoft is releasing a personal favorite of mine, “Costume Quest,” to Xbox Live Gold subscribers on both Xbox One and Xbox 360. Released in 2010, the game spawned a sequel and its own animated series on Amazon Prime. In this role-playing Halloween adventure, you take on the role of Reynold or Wren, fraternal twins who must explore their neighborhood and surrounding areas to find magical costumes and unique weapons to defeat evil creatures that are out to ruin Halloween. The game will be for free to Xbox Live Gold subscribers from October 16-31.

In addition to the above, Xbox will also be releasing “Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy” to both Xbox One and Xbox 360 Xbox Live Gold subscribers in October, though aside from having a mummy in it, I don’t think it quite lands that horror or Halloween vibe the other games offer.
