‘In Search of Darkness’ Documentary Aims to Be a Love Letter to 80’s Horror and Its Fans

There’s a reason exhibits like Slashback Video and Revenge of Slashback Video have been so popular. The VHS era was a heyday for horror and brought about some of the most iconic characters and franchises of the generation. Now, a new documentary in development, In Search of Darkness, is looking to take us back to the days of VHS and spotlight not only the films from the era, but also the decade that inspired them.

It was a time that saw the fear of reality leaking into the fears on film with AIDS, crime, and the terror of possible nuclear war front and center on the 10 o’clock news to give us nightmares before bed. These nightmares would still be there when we woke in the morning and would help shape the celluloid dreams of filmmakers into the stuff of screaming legends.

The project already has a pedigree of names attached to it including directors Stuart Gordon, Mick Garris, Tom Holland, and Joe Dante. Actors like Adrienne Barbeau and Dee Wallace and horror film experts like Joe Bob Briggs and Ryan Turek.  The film will be starting a Kickstarter campaign soon and looks to assemble several more icons from the world of horror and experts in the genre to share tales of the terror brought to the screens we grew up watching (and cowering) in front of.

For the first time in Horror history, In Search of Darkness will bring together 80’s icons, modern horror greats, popular Youtubers and Social Media Influencers to create the most complete retrospective documentary of the genre ever made. Together, they will bring their unique perspectives as we take a nostalgic journey back to revisit the unforgettable heroes, monsters, and movies that thrilled and chilled us.

You can follow the project through their website or on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for the latest updates on the film and the launch of their Kickstarter campaign. Check out the film’s official artwork below!
