“Lee Cronin’s The Mummy” will make its streaming debut exclusively on HBO Max this Friday, July 3, 2026. The debut will be followed by the film’s linear debut on HBO on Saturday, July 4, at 8:00 p.m. E.T.
Written and directed by Cronin, the film ditches the classic ancient mummy tale for a modern nightmare. The story follows a journalist whose young daughter disappears into the desert without a trace. Eight years later, the broken family is shocked when she suddenly returns—but what should be a joyful reunion quickly spirals into a living nightmare.
The film stars Jack Reynor (“Midsommar”), Laia Costa (“Victoria”), May Calamawy (“Ramy”), Natalie Grace (“1923”), and Veronica Falcón (“Ozark”).
The film is produced by James Wan, Jason Blum and John Keville. The executive producers are Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Macdara Kelleher and Lee Cronin.
“Lee Cronin’s The Mummy” has sparked plenty of debate, currently sitting at a divisive 45% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. While reviewers have largely applauded the film’s intense gore and deeply personal stakes, many found themselves exhausted by its hefty two-hour-and-fifteen-minute runtime.
Audiences, however, are having a much better time with it. The film holds a much warmer 72% audience rating, with viewers praising its relentless, gore-heavy thrills—making it a perfect popcorn watch for the holiday weekend.
