Principal photography is officially underway in Vancouver for “Sundowning,” the latest horror offering from indie genre label Spooky Pictures and global studio Image Nation.Written and directed by Ian McDonald (“Woman of the Hour”), the film features an impressive ensemble including Elizabeth Dulau (“Andor”), Susanne Wuest (“Industry”), Rukiya Bernard (“Yellowjackets”), and Robbie G.K. (“Heated Rivalry”).The story follows a young musician plagued by gerontophobia—an irrational fear of aging and older people—who accepts a job at a secluded end-of-life facility. Seeking redemption after neglecting her own dying parents, she views the position as an act of penance. However, her search for closure takes a dark turn as she realizes the idyllic sanctuary hides a terrifying secret within the care system’s walls.“Ian brings a remarkable track record in crafting character-driven thrillers that tackle social and institutional structures in a haunting way,” said Spooky Pictures Co-Founder Steven Schneider.Ben Ross, CEO of Image Nation, added: “Sundowning’ is exactly the type of bold and globally resonant storytelling we’re drawn to. It offers a fresh take on an emotionally driven horror, through its sinister plot that is carefully layered with explorations of guilt, mortality, and loss – all brought to life by Ian’s sharp creative voice.”
