On Tuesday, A24 debuted the official trailer for its highly anticipated horror feature, “Backrooms.”The film is helmed by Kane Parsons, the 20-year-old visionary who transformed the “liminal space” aesthetic into a global viral phenomenon with his found-footage YouTube series. To bring this digital lore to the big screen, Parsons collaborated with screenwriter Will Soodik (“Ash vs Evil Dead”).Led by Oscar-nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor (“12 Years a Slave”), the cast includes Renate Reinsve (“Sentimental Value”), Mark Duplass (“Creep”), Finn Bennett (“Warfare”), and Lukita Maxwell (“Afraid”). The plot centers on the discovery of a mysterious doorway in a furniture showroom’s basement that opens into a suffocating, infinite labyrinth of yellow-hued hallways. The new footage offers a tense look at Ejiofor’s descent into the “Complex” as he realizes the environment itself is as predatory as anything lurking within it.“Backrooms” arrives in theaters on May 29, 2026.
